Out with the Old and In with the New

From The Express-Times
Commissioner Harry Zikas Jr., right, of Alpha, and Frank McCartney, left, the executive director of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, ceremoniously remove one of the traffic control arms in early April at the Easton/Phillipsburg Route 22 toll bridge plaza. Zikas chose not to seek re-election in June and will serve his final day in office today.

Zikas said Alpha officials should "think things through" and plan for the future.

"Sometimes you have to go against what you believe to do what's right," he said.
Today was it - my final day in elected public office...for the time being. I'm truly looking forward to the break, but I know I'll be itching to jump back in to the political arena. Public service is in my blood and I know I'll miss it, but it was time to move on. I won't be fading away...not a chance...I'll still be attending Alpha's Council Meetings to make sure my voice is heard and I hope many of you will join me. I wish our newly elected councilmen well. I don't have much hope for them, but they have three years to prove me wrong and I hope they do. We've done a lot of good over the last decade, but most importantly, we made sure that Alpha's financial future was bright and I hope it stays that way. Thanks again to Alpha's residents for giving me the opportunity to serve this wonderful community. You have been so good to me and my family and I will never forget all that you have given us. I wish you all the best in the new year.
